Salmon Fishing

After raining for the first 3 days that we were here, the weather finally cleared up and has been sunny and 55-60 ever since. So, this gave us a chance to get out and enjoy some of the Arctic's summer activities. Although Kotzebue is known for its world class hunting, that doesn't mean that we don't get to fish, too! Our good friend Walt, who is another teacher, took us out to set net in hopes of catching some of the chum salmon that are running right now. Although chum salmon isn't as good of a meat as Alaskan King, it is still fresh salmon!

This is the net, which is tied of from the shore and goes 75ft out into the water

And a couple more..

We ended up taking home about 11 salmon for the freezer, which is probably about 35lbs of meat. Our freezer is definitely full!
