Out and About

Now that the weather is starting to change, the caribou are starting to migrate, which means hunting season is in full swing. Even with the high gas prices, it is still worth it for people to go out in their boats and shoot a years' worth of caribou. Michael now has his subsistence hunting license because we have been here for a year, so he went out hunting upriver with a friend of ours on Thursday evening. Although they saw hundreds of caribou, and a grizzly bear, they didn't shoot anything. I was going to tag along, but the winds were blowing at about 25mph, and I didn't really feel like throwing up over the side of the boat. In any case, he did take some pictures while he was out. It is so crazy to look at the pictures and think that this is the same river and tundra that we snow machine on in the winter! It's only a matter of months before we will doing that again.

If you look really closely you can see a herd of caribou (like, with a magnifying glass)
