Our mascot here in Kotzebue is the Huskies, which is fitting for a Seattle girl like me. The funny part is that it is actually more appropriate for our mascot to be the huskies because of all of the mushing that goes on here in Kotz.
Anyway, last weekend we hosted a 10 team mix-6 volleyball tournament here in Kotzebue. We brought in 8 teams from villages in our region, along with our Varsity and JV teams. It was a great chance for my team to get some good playing in, and to play a different type of volleyball. The main difference was that we played against teams with guys. The girls did awesome and we ended up taking 3rd in the tournament, losing in the semi-finals. This weekend we are off to Nome to compete against our rivals. Then, we have Thanksgiving weekend off and regionals are the following weekend. Hopefully we will be going to state in Anchorage the weekend after that!
